RED 2014/53/UE
Compliance and consulting for radio equipment in the European Union.
What is Directive 2014/53/EU (RED)?
Directive 2014/53/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council, also known as RED (Radio Equipment Directive), establishes the regulatory framework for making available and putting into service radio equipment in the European Union.
Radio equipment is defined by RED as devices emitting and/or receiving radio waves with a frequency up to 3 THz to communicate and/or determine defined parameters. RED applies to these devices, with several exceptions established by the directive itself.
RED has been in effect since 2016. Manufacturers, importers, distributors, and representatives handling radio equipment in the European Union must demonstrate compliance with RED to apply the CE marking on their devices.
Does RED regard SAFETY?
- Protect the health and safety of persons, animals, and properties

- Ensure access to emergency services
- Facilitate use by users with disabilities
Does RED regard SECURITY?
- Do not harm the Internet network and do not misuse network resources
- Protect personal data and privacy of users
- Ensure protection from fraud
- Ensure that software can be introduced only if compliant
Does RED Provide Formal Requests?
RED requires the production of specific project technical documentation and a conformity declaration, and defines procedures for conformity assessment, generally involving notified bodies.
